The City of Wauseon Clinton Township Fulton County, Ohio #dovertownship #wauseonfiremansassociation Wauseon Fire Fighters IAFF Local 5223📣 Happy #FeatureFriday! 🚒🧯 We're thrilled to feature Wauseon Fire Department this week! We recently sat down with them to get an inside look at their mission, values, and what makes them stand out. 👉 Here's what they had to say:
1. Can you describe your company's mission and values?
- The Wauseon Fire Department exists to provide a safe environment for the community by minimizing the impact of fire, disaster, hazardous conditions, illness, and injury through information, public education, quality service and efficient resources.
2. What makes your workplace culture unique?
- As a firefighter, our crew works for 24 hours each shift. During the shift our crews respond to life saving calls, maintain the station and equipment, train, share meals, and exercises. This creates a family atmosphere among each shift.
3. What benefits or perks do you offer your employees?
- City of Wauseon firefighters receive paid time off, a comprehensive retirement plan, affordable health care for part-time and full-time employees, scheduling flexibility, access to health and wellness programs, training opportunities, tuition reimbursement, and more.
4. Can you share a recent success story or accomplishment from your team?
- We take pride in taking care of our community with all of our decision making, not just when putting out fires or providing patient care. Our apparatus refurbishment process has been a huge success for us. We are taking our current apparatus when it is at its end of life, and working with the manufacturer to rebuild them at a fraction of the cost of buying new. This is an economical way to extend the life of the truck without forcing our taxpayers to pay millions of dollars for new fire equipment.
5. How do you support the professional development and growth of your employees?
- In the medical and fire profession, information is always evolving. Therefore, there is no limit to learning opportunities. Our department allocates funds to cover the cost of training opportunities held at our training facilities and at outside locations as well.

The Wauseon Fire Department is fortunate to have several individuals that oversee the maintenance of our fire apparatus. As Clinton Twp. employees, Eric Eyer and Derek Heising are the unsung heroes that work behind the scenes to ensure that our apparatus is ready when you need it. A few of their responsibilities include regular preventative maintenance of the chassis and pumps, pump testing, and troubleshooting any mechanical issues that may arise out of normal wear and tear. As township employees, their hard work not only keeps our members safe by providing us with safe apparatus, as well as protecting the community with their cost-effective services.
