In June of 2011, the Wauseon Fire Department sent seven members to New York City to retrieve an artifact from the World Trade Center. The artifact was housed in Hanger 17 at the JFK International Airport. Inside the hanger there were many pieces of the World Trade Center that were ready to be picked up to make memorials all over the United States. There were also pieces for the 9/11 Memorial Museum. On the route home we were greeted by many fire departments. When entering Fulton County there was a parade that took the artifact to Wauseon. The 9/11 Memorial now resides at the Fulton County Fairgrounds.
